Unlike similar programs which focus only on one or two areas related to cybersecurity, Indiana University’s M.S. in Cybersecurity Risk Management degree program explores how technology, business, and law intersect in the cybersecurity realm.
As a student in our program, you’ll take cybersecurity courses from three of IU’s top-ranked schools: the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering; the Kelley School of Business; and the Maurer School of Law.

You can customize your program to your schedule. Enroll full time on campus or online, or take a hybrid approach with some online and some on-campus courses. You can complete your degree in as little as one year (as a hybrid program) or you can take up to five years to finish. It’s up to you.
After you’ve been accepted into the program, we’ll help you develop your plan of study based on your focus and course availability (not all courses are offered in all modes).
Our M.S. in Cybersecurity Risk Management is unique because it uses an interdisciplinary approach that integrates technology, business, and law perspectives.
And you have options. Choose from an extensive list of courses to build a degree that’s tailored to you. You can balance the tech, business, and law courses you take to thoroughly examine all the angles of cybersecurity risk management, or you can choose to specialize in a single concentration by taking the majority of your courses in that area. Your chosen concentration will appear on your transcript, demonstrating that you’ve got the proficiency you need to handle the deeper questions about cybersecurity.
If you already have a technical background, you might choose to concentrate on the technical aspects of cybersecurity. You’ll have the opportunity to develop your expertise in areas from system and network security to cryptography. Choose classes from the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering.
If you’re coming from a business background, you may want to focus on information technology risk management courses. You’ll explore topics from big data to intellectual property. Choose classes from the IU Kelley School of Business.
Interested in the law and policy side of cybersecurity? You could choose the law concentration, where you can focus on information security and privacy laws and policies, including health information privacy. Choose classes from the IU Maurer School of Law.
The Artificial Intelligence (AI) concentration introduces you to the technical, business, legal, and ethical dimensions of applying AI techniques to manage cyber threats. If you decide to pursue the AI concentration, you have the added benefit of completing an applied AI project in the Cybersecurity Clinic (an elective course for the MS but required if you pursue the AI concentration).

Our M.S. in Cybersecurity Risk Management is also part of two IU dual degree programs: the JD/MS dual degree with the IU Maurer School of Law and the MPA/MS dual degree with the IU O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
Gain real-world consulting experience doing a project that has the potential to change lives. Since 2013, IU cybersecurity students have found solutions for Indiana government agencies, local governments, and schools. The capstone project will strengthen your technological skills and enable you to address technical, managerial, and legal questions posed by clients.
